Cannot Print Pdf On Mac 10.5.8

When you hit "preview" button, this is like most preview windows showing you what your print out should look like. its really frustrating. So, if I want to print a word of 1 MB to pdf, the pdf will be 50 MB of size! If I crank up the preferences I get the error "Failed to load an application resource (internal error)." ... This new security password protecting pdf is good idea, but it doesn't work right? Thank you, thank you! weblink I've always been able to turn it into a PDF using the Print, PDF feature. Couldn't Preview just allow you to print in B&W and not have to open as PDF????? This was accomplished by opening the newly saved two page pdf with Preview and deleting the extra unwanted page (a edit menu item).
